A driver caught speeding at 96mph on the A11 told police he “wanted to keep the kids happy“ by going faster.

Officers from the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing team followed the driver at 110mph to catch up with him after clocking him at nearly 100mph near Wymondham.

Two five-year-old children were in the back seat.

The excuse he gave to officers was: “The kids kept asking ‘are we there yet?’”

“He thought if he got there quicker he would keep them happy,” police tweeted after the stop.

The driver will receive a court summons.
