Cyclists of all abilities will get a taste of what it is like to be a Tour of Britain rider when they pedal part of the route set to be tackled by the professionals.

The Dereham Times' sister title, the Eastern Daily Press, has joined up with cycle event organisers to present a mass-participation bike ride which will take in some of the route the Tour will follow when it returns to East Anglia on September 12.

This Sunday, August 16, there will be the EDP Tour Sportive which will see riders set off from Reepham and cover an option of three routes of 20, 40 or 60 miles.

Each route is based partly on the stage to be ridden by the world-class peloton, with the remainder of the course on quiet country lanes.

Len Fletcher, organiser of the EDP Tour Sportive, said: 'There's a chance for everyone to challenge themselves to ride a little further than they normally would but not too far to be put off by the distance. Norfolk is the perfect county for cycling and the ToB coming back here proves how popular cycling is in Norfolk.'

Starting at Reepham High School and College, registration will open at 8am and close at 10am. Riders are free to leave at any time after they have registered.

The school will also be used as a halfway stop on the 40 and 60 mile routes where riders will be able to refill drinks bottles with supplied energy drinks.

Mr Fletcher confirmed that entries can be made online and also on the day.

Meanwhile, in a sports-packed weekend for Reepham, hundreds of runners will be taking part in the Reepham Summer 10km race.

The multi-terrain event, which will take in part of Marriott's Way, will start at 10am from Stimpson's Piece Recreation Ground.
