Police are hunting burglars who threatened an 87-year-old man in his west Norfolk home.
The householder, who lives at Hilgay Road, West Dereham, near Downham Market, answered a knock on his porch door at 10.35pm yesterday.
He was confronted with three men, the eldest of whom was armed with a baseball bat, who forced their way inside and threatened him with violence.
They then stole a green parakeet valued at £400 from a cage before leaving in a red car.
The eldest, who had a black eye, had called on the victim the previous day offering to carry out gardening services before driving off in a black saloon car.
Det Con Ian Young is keen to hear from anyone who has seen suspicious activity in the area over the last few days or other householders who have received offers of gardening or similar services.
