Art Fair East, the region’s biggest contemporary art fair, is returning to Norwich this December.

Founded in 2015 by leading Norfolk-based artists Will Teather and Brian Korteling,  Art Fair East hosts artists, galleries and art dealers from across the world in the spectacular setting of St Andrew’s Hall.

Here, Will tells us all we need to know about this year’s event…

What is Art Fair East and what can visitors expect?

Art Fair East is the largest and liveliest contemporary visual arts event in the region. A wide range of artists, galleries and dealers are gathered together from across the UK and overseas, bringing a slice of the art world to both seasoned and new art lovers.

There is a real buzz at the exhibition, with so much to see and many artists there in person for visitors to chat to.

The line-up for 2023 is our best yet, including many works never seen before in the East of England.

There is nothing else quite like Art Fair East in the area.

When and where is Art Fair East taking place?

Art Fair East takes place at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich – in the heart of the city’s cultural quarter – on the following days:

  • Thursday, November 30, VIP private view, 6-9pm
  • Friday, December 1, 10.30am-5.30pm
  • Saturday, December 2, 10.30am-6pm
  • Sunday, December 3, 10.30am-5pm

How many artists will be taking part and where are they from?

Alongside talent from the region, we have artworks by legendary 90s DJ Goldie being brought along by London’s Ad Lib Gallery, plus works by famous New York artist Keith Haring brought by Holt’s Antiques and Appraisals.

We also have Art Wars joining us: an international touring project of life-sized Stormtrooper helmets that have been transformed into highly collectable pieces of art by artists including Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor, Jake and Dinos Chapman, D*Face, Retna, David Bailey, Alison Jackson, Joana Vasocncelos, Antony Micallef and Mr.Brainwash.

The project has toured locations in Miami, Hollywood, Las Vegas, London, Dubai, Gothenburg and now comes to Norwich.

What types of artworks will be on show?

Hundreds of artworks will be on display, amongst the international range of exhibitors this year we have dealers in traditional and contemporary fine art, modern art, urban and street art, photography and sculpture.

Gallery specialists will be available to advise on collecting contemporary art, from affordable prints by recognised artists and new talent through to serious investments, including original paintings, prints, sculpture, photography and artworks made to commission.

Is all the work for sale?

All the work is for sale – this is a fantastic opportunity to choose a unique artwork for your home, support artists and perhaps invest in a future star.

How much do the artworks cost?

Artworks typically start from £40 upwards for signed prints by emerging talent to tens-of-thousands of pounds for major pieces by established names.

Why was St Andrew’s Hall chosen as the venue?

St Andrew’s Hall is a beautiful venue with lots of light and space for a large exhibition. It is also in the middle of the city’s cultural quarter.

The hall has toilets and we will have a cafe on site for the duration of the event.

Who organises Art Fair East?

Art Fair East is organised by myself, Will Teather, and Brian Korteling. We are both artists and could see a need for an event of this kind in the area.

We are passionate about bringing contemporary art to the region, supporting artists and creating excitement around the visual arts. We will both be displaying new work at this year’s Art Fair East.

Who sponsors Art Fair East?

The event is sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents & Financial Services and Chadwicks Limited – it wouldn’t be the same without them.
