Hauntings, ghosts and spooky scenes have all become associated with some of Norfolk's oldest buildings.

The tales and history of the county have created the perfect space for paranormal activity. Here are nine of the most 'haunted' houses this Halloween. 

 

1) Raynham Hall - Fakenham

Set in the beautiful backdrop of the west Norfolk countryside, this 400-year-old home has a hair-raising haunting.

The tale goes that Lady Dorothy Walpole haunts the country house after her husband locked her up there.

She now appears as 'the brown lady' leading to one of the world's most infamous ghost photos.

 

2) Blickling Hall

This beloved national trust site was home to Anne Boleyn, the second of Henry VIII's wives, who was famously beheaded after not having a son.

The legend goes on every anniversary of her death, May 19, her ghost dressed in white rides to the house.

 

3) The Maids Head Hotel - Norwich

One of the oldest hotels in the country, the Maids Head has had guests such as Queen Elizabeth I and Catherine of Aragon.

Dating back to the 13th century, some say the hotel has two extra supernatural guests. A former maid still cleaning and a former mayor pacing the courtyard.    

 

4) Norwich Castle

The castle looming over Norwich, although now a museum and gallery, has had a much darker history. With reports of ghosts, ghouls and floating skulls this Halloween may see the return of the undead.

5) St Benet's Abbey - Great Yarmouth

The Abbey, built by the Vikings, has gathered many stories over the years but most famously the tale of the 'shrieking monk'. The story of a monk named Essric who was slaughtered by a Viking raid.

Legend has it the event replays every night at midnight causing passers-by to hear the monks scream.

6) Sandringham House

The holiday home for the royal family has been reported to be full of mysterious goings on.

With reports of supernatural objects floating and sudden gusts of air, the Royal House is one to look out for this spooky season.

7) The Adam and Eve Pub - Norwich

The pub dates back to the 13th century making it the oldest pub in Norwich. It has had many tales to tell over its centuries of serving the city.

Most spookily Lord Sheffield, who died in the pub during Kett's rebellion, is still rumoured to haunt its tables.
