A homeowner has claimed locals' needs are being overlooked in favour of new housing developments as current plans will leave them with nowhere to park.

Nine new homes have been approved for land off Carvers Lane in Attleborough but there could be as many as 100 built at the site if further plans are given the go-ahead.

A pavement is to be built along the one-lane West Carr Road nearby as part of the development but this will mean some locals will have nowhere to park outside their homes.

Joanna Smith, who lives there, has been left infuriated by the plans.

She said: "No one seems to know where anyone is going to park anymore.

"I love living here in this community and wouldn't want to live anywhere else but this will have a big impact on our lives.

"It feels like the council is just focused on meeting its housing targets for new homes with little thought about the impact on people already living here.

"We feel ignored."

The mum-of-two has raised the issue with Breckland Council, who said it was a highways issue.

But Norfolk County Council, which is responsible for the county's roads and highways, has said it is the responsibility of the local planning authority.

"We asked for suggestions but none has been able to come up with a solution," said the 34-year-old.

"A number of my neighbours are elderly and I myself have two young children, so having somewhere safe to park is really important.

"It will force us to park about 700 yards away from our homes.

"It feels like they haven't given us any thought."

While Mrs Smith and her neighbours will lose parking outside their homes, the new development will see 18 car parking spaces created alongside the nine new homes.

Breckland Council has been approached for comment.
