Three rescue dogs from Romania have arrived in north Norfolk after an agonising eight-month wait.
Jo Jordan and Lisa Boni, who live near Holt, applied last May to adopt a dog they have since named Ottie.
Ms Jordan said: "All seemed well. The charity Noah’s Ark approved the adoption.
"We were so excited. The journey began but they sadly got turned back at Germany."
Due to the war in Ukraine and fears of rabies entering the UK, Defra had introduced a temporary ban on the importing of commercial animals, including rescue pets, from Belarus, Poland, Romania and Ukraine.
Ms Jordan was told their adoption would get reviewed every couple of months.
In the meantime, they decided to also adopt Ottie's mother and daughter.
The ban was lifted in October and the canine trio finally arrived in the UK in December.
"They are settling in so well," Ms Jordan said. "They are nervous but each day they are trusting us more."
