Health chiefs in Suffolk have announced that the 1.5m refurbishment of Hartismere Hospital is due to finish at the end of the month, with it opening to patients in May.

The hospital, which is based in Castleton Way, Eye, provides community and specialist clinical services to residents of Suffolk and Norfolk.

NHS bosses have said that the hospital's improvements will bring the building up to standard. The project was announced in August 2010 and started last March, which has seen the hospital revitalised with a new-look reception and glass atrium areas.

Julie Morgan, project manager of the Hartismere refurbishment project, said: 'Staff are still working in there and it is an investment that the hospital needed, as when you walk into the new atrium it makes quite a difference, as it was quite dark and dingy before. The reception area is now nice to sit and wait in and the whole building is a one-stop shop.'

'The Gilchrist maternity unit has been moved inside the hospital as before it was in another building on the site. It makes a huge difference.'
