Part of Kett's Hill in Norwich has sunk after the sewer below it collapsed.

The road is currently closed to traffic and is expected to be shut until October 19.

Anglian Water is carrying out work to clear the sewer before rebuilding the collapsed section and make it structurally safe.

A spokesman said they were doing 'everything we can' to get the road reopened as soon as possible.

But workers on the road have hit out at a lack of warning about the closure and say it is hitting their businesses hard.

Julie Hall, who works at Ketts Hill Bakery, said they had 'no warning' about the closure.

Speaking on Saturday morning (October 13) she said: 'It's affecting us really badly.

'No-one can get up here. They could have put in access but they've done nothing like that.'

She added: 'Normally on a Saturday we're busy but because of this (the road closure) we've been losing a lot of trade.'

Paul Kent, who has a hair studio next door to the bakery, has also been hit by the road closure and said he would be closing early as there was 'no point' staying open while the work was taking place.

Mr Kent, who complained they never had any advance warning about the closure, said: 'It's all bad news.

'I'm shutting up at 11am.

'I've not event bothered putting my sign out, there's no point. It's an absolute joke.'

Diversions have been put in place while the work is carried out.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use the diversion routes in place.

The closure comes as Plumstead Road remains partially closed with traffic lights while BT carries out repairs to service boxes.

The work is expected to continue until Wednesday, October 17.

While the road is not closed motorists are warned to expect delays and to avoid the area during rush hour.
