The hole has appeared in the middle of Spar Road, which is situated to the north of the city, and has opened up near a row of businesses.

A spokesperson for Norwich City Council said investigations are still ongoing into what has caused the sinkhole.

Teams from Anglia Water were at the site today and have confirmed the hole was not caused by its supplies.

Further investigations are due to be carried out tomorrow.

The spokesperson added: 'When we find out what is responsible for the hole, repairs will be carried out next week.

'The road remains open to traffic.'

Spar Road is home to a number of companies including Blockbuster Drain Service, Funkys and Break.

Last month a car fell into a sinkhole on Rouen Road in the city.

It was caused by a water pipe which had burst.
