Driving conditions across north Norfolk roads have deteriorated because of an increase of snow in the area.

There were less cars on the main and country roads today including the A149, which have all received a layer of snow last night or this morning.

Areas including North Walsham, Sheringham and many villages, including those in the north of the district, have beet hit hard by the freezing conditions.

Several schools were closed in north Norfolk and parents have been out and about pulling their children on sledges.

Work on the Cromer Pier and Sheringham East Prom has stopped because of the cold temperatures and snow.

A spokesman for North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) said the Sheringham Market due to take place on the main car park off the town's roundabout tomorrow morning would still take place.

An auction of promises event at Aylsham High School for the WaterAid and the school prom this year was due to take place tonight from 7pm but has been called off.

Bin collection crews across north Norfolk have completed as many waste and recycling collections as possible today.

Some areas have been inaccessible because of the snow and ice not all collections due this week have been completed.

No further bin collections will take place over the weekend due to anticipated poor weather and road conditions.

The NNDC spokesman said: 'We intend to resume waste and recycling collections on Monday January 21, starting with bins that remain outstanding from this week. Therefore, if your waste or recycling bin was due for collection this week and has not yet been emptied, please leave it out for collection and it will be emptied as soon as we are able to do so. A reasonable quantity of additional waste, placed beside the bin, will be removed from properties where collections have been delayed.'

Although collections are currently behind schedule, residents have been asked to put waste or recycling bins out for collection by 7am on normal collection days and leave it outside until emptied.

The collection of garden bins has been suspended until Wednesday January 23 at the earliest, subject to the weather conditions.

Residents have been asked to leave out garden waste on scheduled collection days.
