A Norwich road is still closed off after a gas leak.

The road and footpath in Lodge Lane, Old Catton, were closed yesterday (Tuesday, August 20), next to Lodge Lane Infant School and remain shut today (Wednesday, August 21).

Gas network Cadent had been carrying out gas maintenance work on Lodge Lane to replace old iron gas mains with more durable plastic pipes.

But, at 11am yesterday, contractors found a gas escape coming from a service pipe.

Repair teams were called, but the road had to be shut.

It meant First's Orange Line buses were diverted.

Orange Line buses are continuing to call at Fiddlewood and White Woman Lane, but not at stops on St Faiths Road beyond Fiddlewood or on Lodge Lane.

Tonight, Cadent vans were at the scene, with no smoking signs put up along the road.

A spokesman for Cadent said: "We'll do all we can to complete the repairs as soon as possible."

First said they had been told the road would reopen on Wednesday afternoon.
