Sheringham residents and visitors are being urged to plan their route carefully before setting out by car this week, to avoid major roadworks taking place in the town centre.

As part of £12.7 million of government funding received by Norfolk County Council for road maintenance needed to repair winter damage, resurfacing works on the carriageway along Church Street and High Street began on Monday.

Depending on weather conditions, repairs are expected to be finished by Friday, with work starting at the sea front end of High Street and southwards towards the railway bridge on Church Street.

Deputy mayor Liz Withington said businesses affected by the works had been sent letters advising them of road closures.

She added: 'The work will mean Sheringham will be looking smart and inviting to visitors ready for the summer and, because dropped kerbs have been added outside Sainsbury's and at the seafront end of High Street, accessibility will be improved.'
