Saturday sees an important new chapter in Alfa Romeo's story with the official launch of the first sport utility vehicle in its 107-year history.

Desira is holding an exclusive test-drive event at its Norwich and Bury St Edmunds branches on Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm, giving people the chance to experience the new Stelvio on and off the track with its pro-driver. Contact the dealerships to check availability.

The Stelvio, priced from £33,990 to £45,390 on the road, is available in standard, Super, Speciale and limited production Milano Edizione trim levels.

Entry Stelvio includes 17in alloy wheels, LED rear lights, dual-zone climate control, Alfa DNA driving mode selector, 3.5in TFT colour cluster instrument panel, 8.8in display infotainment system with DAB plus Bluetooth/auxiliary multimedia connectivity, eight-speaker audio system, four USB ports and multi-function leather steering wheel.

Super version adds 18in alloys, front parking sensors, 3D European navigation, 7in TFT instrument cluster, two-tone leather dashboard and leather and cloth upholstery.

Speciale features 19in alloys with red brake calipers, chrome window surround, Bi-Xenon headlights, power-folding door mirrors, heated front leather seats and aluminium gear shift paddles on the steering column.

Milano Edizione includes sporty leather seats, 10-speaker sound system, 20in alloys, keyless entry, heat-reflecting windscreen, privacy glass, electrically-adjustable, heated front seats and rear-view camera.

Initially the SUV will be powered by 2.2-litre 210hp turbo diesel and 2.0-litre 280hp turbo petrol engines mated to ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive as standard.

The turbo petrol engine offers best in class acceleration with 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 143mph, while returning 40.4mpg combined with C02 emissions of 161g/km. The figures for the turbo diesel are 6.6 secs, 134mph, 58.9mpg and 127g/km.

They will be joined by a 180hp all-wheel and rear-wheel drive diesel and 200hp all-wheel drive petrol.

The new SUV boasts sports car-like handling with exclusive Alfalink technology – the most direct steering ratio in the segment and state-of-the-art suspension.

All-wheel drive sends all the power to the rear wheels but can transfer up to 50% to the front axle.

The Stelvio's 525-litre boot features a convenient electric tailgate.

Test-drive spaces are limited so to find out more or book phone the Norwich dealership, in Heigham Street, on 01603 671890 or Bury St Edmunds on 01284 01284 339766 or log on to www.desiragroup.com/alfa-romeo/new-cars/alfa-romeo-stelvio/
