Norfolk and Norwich Rover Owners Club opened its annual charity event at Sandringham up as a general classic car show and attracted nearly 100 cars.
Norfolk and Norwich Rover Owners Club, which has been staging an annual charity prestige and sporting cars day at Sandringham Country Park, this year opened it up as a general classic car show due to popular demand.
It proved to be a good move as the club filled the vista, next to the visitors centre, with nearly 100 cars, still including a selection of prestige and sporting models including its Rovers and friends from the MG club.
The star of the show was a 1901 de Dion Bouton three-seater volturette, which completed London to Brighton run last year, managing speeds of 25 to 30mph. This is a Norfolk car that was supplied new to the owner of Necton Hall, near Swaffham.
The Rover club's chosen charity this year was Pancreatic Cancer Research, in memory of Carolyn Phillips, the late wife of our president Gareth, who sadly passed away last Christmas. A total of £1,754 was raised on the day and a cheque presented the president of the society Lynn Walker who chose the car of the show and presented trophies.
The best Rover trophy went to Glen Read with his 1935 Rover 10, while Graham Teeson's remarkable Rover P4 won car of the show. Rolly Field picked up two awards for best other classic with his Riley 1.5 and best MG with his MGB roadster.
John Puddedphat's Porsche 911 was voted the best in the Mercedes/Porsche class.
As well as looking at the cars, there was also the opportunity to look around Sandringham House, Museum and Gardens and explore the waymarked walks and sculpture trail in the surrounding woodland.
