Colourful mascots will be under starter's orders at Great Yarmouth Racecourse on Sunday, August 27.

Instead of horses pounding down the track it will be lions, bears, donkeys and a host of other madcap creatures from regional tourist attractions.

The race, at around 3.20pm, is among a day of family fun woven into a full racing programme at the course's annual Bank Holiday Family Fun Day.

Youngsters can also get a taste of the action during running races on the track and there will be children's competitions, entertainers, rides and bouncy castles. It is the only weekend races it stages – making it more accessible to families. Gates open at 11.30am and the first horse race is at 2.15pm.

Admission for children under 18 free. For ticket details, call 01493 842527 or visit www.greatyarmouth-racecourse
