A poet and spoken word artist from Bungay has won a top national award for his latest spoken word performance.

Luke Wright, 38, has won the ‘Best Spoken Word Show’ at the Saboteur Awards for his verse plays ‘The Remains of Logan Dankworth’.

The poet and theatre maker who graduated from the University of East Anglia has been writing poetry since he was 17 and has gone on to perform alongside performers like John Cooper Clarke.

Mr Wright is also the organiser of the poetry arena at Southwold’s Latitude Festival.

“I’m so pleased to win this award,” Mr Wright said. “Logan Dankworth is certainly the most complex and mature thing I’ve written to date so it’s lovely to have it recognised.

“As with my previous plays there is a personal story occurring against the backdrop of political upheaval.”

The poet said he was due to be in the middle of a tour which culminated with the Edinburgh Fringe until it was cancelled by the coronavirus lockdown.

But since March 19, he has been doing daily performances of his poetry through live streams on his Twitter account.
