Transfer deadline day...a Norwich City blogger’s tale

You never know how a blog, which is running for a substantial period of time, is going to turn out.
If you're not delivering the news fans want to hear, it can all become quite toxic... very quickly.
Where is player X?
Why haven't we signed anyone?
We need to get rid of the deadwood!

Going into the blog it was clear that the Mitchell Dijks deal was all but done. However, until there is that official confirmation the doubts remain. Norwich fans have been here before after all – it would be very Norwich City if Leicester had suddenly rekindled their interest in the Ajax man.
But City fans were, in the main, optimistic about the day ahead. The first real news of the day came when it was revealed Sergi Canos was on his way to Brentford in a £2.5m deal. This didn't please a lot of supporters, who feel the Spaniard was never given a chance by Alex Neil.
To make things worse there were also claims Norwich would lose 25pc of that fee due to a sell-on clause agreed with Liverpool in the summer. Untrue, as far as we understand.
Things really clicked into gear when there were claims on social media Robbie Brady was on his way to Burnley for a medical.
As the author of the blog, you hope there is some news about another incoming before a darkness pervades City's disgruntled fanbase.
That's when good old Yanic Wildschut and his square jaw saved the day. City had reportedly fended off interest from Derby to agree a fee for the Dutchman with Wigan.
After delivering a Facebook Live video, where apparently I looked like I was being held against my will (thanks Mr Editor), I returned to the blog to find Lewis Grabban's name had been mooted for a return to Carrow Road.
The majority of City fans thought this would be a backward step, particularly given he never seemed to take to Norfolk life in the first place.
He left under a cloud after going AWOL at Rotherham and Norwich could do without another problem when their full focus must be on getting one of those play-off places.
Anyway, the deal was never going to happen.
Lunchtime came and went where there was a traumatic episode of some coriander being on my pasta but we all moved past it.
Except, there really wasn't much more news for fans to digest early in the afternoon. Dijks had rejected City, Derby were back in for Wildschut – all of it absolute rubbish, but in the tetchy world of a transfer blog, fiction very quickly becomes fact.
And then my shift on the blog was over - eight hours where we'd had nothing but rumour.
So I left my colleague David Freezer to see it home as all the proper news arrived – Dijks would sign, Canos would leave, as would Brady, whilst Carlton Morris headed to Rotherham on loan. Then, with a minute of the window left, Norwich broke the Wildschut news.
Another window done and only time will tell if it will be regarded as a success or failure.
But for now, what do fans want to know?
'Who are we signing in the summer?'
