Six of the best from North Norfolk Photographic Society

Most camera clubs hold 'annual' competitions, where their members are invited to vie for the 'best of the best' for the year, and having previously held the contest for projected pictures, it was now the turn of the prints.

Judge for the day was Dave Stewart, a professional photographer from Peterborough, who amazingly has a passion for photography that still allows him to give up his evening to travel from his home to judge in Holt.

The competition was split into two groups: for so-called novices (many really not novices at all) and advanced members.

Nine members entered the 'Novice' section and Dave Stewart thought five of their entries worth putting to one side for a second look. In the end, Rob Palethorpe's 'Late Sun at Cley' was the winner - the Mill and marshes brightly lit by the sun under a dark, brooding sky. Michaela Bone was 2nd with 'Heathland Reflections' and Grace Glaister 3rd with 'Emma'.

The Advanced section drew 22 competitors who entered a total of 61 prints, seven of which were put to one side and from which Dave decided Paul Richards'

'Black-winged Stilt' as the winner, the bird beautifully captured against a pastel coloured background. Alan Dedman's 'Stalking the Seagulls' was 2nd and David Tottman's 'Becalmed' 3rd.
