Having moved from London to Norwich nearly 40 years ago, I appreciate it being a smaller, less stressed city, however we still have traffic problems. Out of necessity, many efforts have been made in London regarding public transport, pollution reduction and making it safer for cyclists and pedestrians, including buying a fleet of hydrogen powered buses and taxis.

I am delighted therefore by our council's increased pedestrianisation of the city centre, improved cycleways, encouragement of walking and above all traffic calming measures to make all streets within the inner ring road 20mph only and residential ones as well.

The transformation in my area alone has been amazing. Any changes of this sort are bound to involve some teething problems and drivers will have to adapt, also full provision must be made for disabled, unsighted and hard of hearing, but the only result can be a more peaceful, safer and pleasant city for all.

I sincerely hope the motion recently adopted by council to promote low carbon transport in the city will also soon bear fruit.
