Plans for 24 homes in Blofield Heath and another 14 in Blofield are being recommended for approval next week.

Despite villagers and a sport and social club raising highways safety concerns, the Blofield Heath plans for land off Woodbastwick Road look set to be granted outline planning permission.

The proposed development, by Jenkinson Properties, was previously refused and at a meeting in March a decision was taken to commission an independent highway assessment, to look at access issues which could affect the neighbouring Heathlands Community Centre and Social Club and nearby homes.

Following the assessment, amended plans were submitted on August 11, revising the site access and now planning officers are recommending the plans are approved by members of Broadland District Council's planning committee when they meet on Wednesday, August 27.

Architect Terry Norton, acting on behalf of the Heathlands Community Centre and Social Club, said there were still serious road safety concerns, particularly with extra traffic expected due to hundreds of extra homes planned for nearby Blofield. He pointed out the club only has parking spaces for about 50 cars, with many more parking along the road when the club holds a large event.

He said: 'We are all being ignored and we have got to go yet again to defend our corner.

'Everything about this proposed access goes against the standards for designing a new road or entrance.'

The report also notes that another application has since been submitted, and which is yet to be determined, for up to 37 homes on land off Blofield Corner Road, Blofield Heath.

While this site has already been identified as a preferred option for house building, the report notes that does not mean the Woodbastwick Road plans are unacceptable.

Also recommended for approval, and also subject to various conditions being met by the developers, are amended plans for 14 homes on land east of Plantation Road, Blofield, near to the A47. An application for 14 homes on the site was originally lodged in 2012 and refused, but then allowed on appeal earlier this year.

The latest application, by NPS Property Consultants, is for the same number of homes, but as the developers have offered to sell land at the rear of the site to the parish council for use as a community open space, the revised plans are to amend the access to this land.

Broadland District Council's planning committee meeting will be held at 9.30am on Wednesday, August 27, at the council's offices in Yarmouth Road, Thorpe St Andrew.
