Residents are being urged to step forward and voice their concerns over a controversial development plan.

Hellesdon Parish Council is hosting a second exhibition of plans for redevelopment of the Royal Norwich Golf Club this week, but has reported a poor turn-out so far.

Since it opened on Monday, just 52 people have viewed the plans on display in the Diamond Jubilee Lodge.

They outline the six phases of development proposed by Persimmon Homes Anglia, which plans to build around 1,000 homes and a primary school on the site over the next 10 years.

Shelagh Gurney, chairman of the parish authority, said: 'As a pro-active council, we have decided to keep our residents informed of what is happening in our parish and so far we have been very disappointed with the attendance to this exhibition.

'Councillors are giving up their time voluntarily to welcome residents to the exhibition, and we're keen for them to give us their feedback.'

The exhibition, which is open all week, with two daily slots split over five hours, is serving as a precursor to a public meeting at Hellesdon High School, from 7pm on Monday.

There are also additional opportunities for residents to view the plans this evening, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, and Saturday, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Mrs Gurney added: 'There seems to be a general acceptance about housing needs, but the main concern is the infrastructure; in particular the roads.

'The message that is coming across clearly is for Persimmon to sort out the roads before a single brick is laid.

'However, if people do not step forward and share their concerns with us, then we cannot fight for them.'

The exhibition is also open today and tomorrow, from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
