The countdown to Christmas has begun in Aylsham as the lights were switched on across the town. The market and Red Lion Street were closed as around 2,000 people headed to the town centre to see Santa and get into the festive spirit last night.
Dennis Carol, who had run the fruit and vegetable stall on the market for years and retired this year, had the honour of flicking the switch.
Paul Smith, events officer at Aylsham town council, said: 'It was absolutely fantastic, next year we think we will need a bigger space.'
