A museum which has been given top ranking on a travel website is in need of more volunteers to come to help.

The RAF Air Defence Radar Museum at Neatishead, near Coltishall, is currently number one out of 313 visitor attractions in Norfolk on the TripAdvisor website.

It has been given top marks and a thumbs up from numerous visitors who have posted their praise for the museum on the site.

Brian Crane, a volunteer at the museum, said: 'However, we have been the victims of our own success to some extent, having to cope with much greater numbers than last year.

They are now appealing for more volunteers to help at the museum. He added: 'We need people from all walks of life – there is lots to do here.'

The museum is also advertising for paid staff in the form of a museum curator and manager.

Chris Morshead, who is the current curator but leaves at the end of the season in October, said: 'We need as many volunteers as we can get really. Even in the winter months when the museum is shut, we still need volunteers to help with the maintenance.'

He said they were looking for men and women to get involved with the museum.

The museum includes presentations on the part radar played in the Battle of Britain, night fighter operations, the radar history, space defence and the RAF Coltishall rooms.

Visitors can also now see the once Secret Cold War Operations Room and have its secrets explained.

Radar operations began at RAF Neatishead in 1942 and continued until 2004 when RAF Neatishead ceased operations and became Remote Radar Head Neatishead, which supplies engineering support to the radar at Trimingham.

When operations at RAF Neatishead moved into the underground bunker in 1995, the operations room was left intact and became the centre piece of the museum.
