Colin Sampson will be confirmed as West Norfolk's Mayor next week.
Mayormaking takes place at King's lynn Town Hall, on Thursday.
Mr Sampson moved to West Norfolk nearly 20 years ago and took early retirement in 1998 to pursue his keen interests in bird watching and railways.
He has been a borough councillor since 2007, representing Wissey Ward and was deputy mayor in 2009-2010. He has also Mayor of Downham Market, in 2005.
The new deputy mayor will be Elizabeth Watson, who has been the member for Hunstanton Ward for the past 4 years and is chair of the Hunstanton in Bloom committee.
