Wartime days when Blickling Hall was home to RAF airmen were recalled at a special weekend attended by more than 1,000 visitors.

The National Trust stately home held its first ever day to celebrate its links with the RAF base at nearby Oulton.

The hall was a requisitioned during the second world war and housed the officers and airmen.

The attraction has a permanent RAF Oulton Museum but at the weekend it was enhanced with items on loan from the Muckleburgh collection while talks about 100 Squadron took place in the crew room.

Black Knight Historical helped to bring the era to life with pre operations briefings, lessons on escape and evasion, aircraft recognition, and ministry of food demonstrations.

Ian Pycroft, head of Black Knight Historical said: 'We were delighted to be asked along to this event. With the long-awaited recognition of the work of the men and women of Bomber Command recently, it was an emotional and informative day for the families of those involved.'

There were walks through the attics of Blickling Hall where RAF posters still remain on the walls and cycle tours to the former Oulton airfield.

The volunteers from the Spirit of Coltishall group brought their Jaguar cockpit and visitors of all ages clambered aboard to experience the world of the pilot.

Blickling's RAF Oulton Museum is open on Wednesdays to Sundays from 11am to last entry at 4pm until November 4.
