A web radio station is hosting a Beatles music gala which promises play 3 hours of non-stop their music.

West Norfolk-based online station Folkspot radio is tomorrow marking the 50th anniversary of when the Beatles found out they had sold an advance of 1m copies of I Wanna Hold Your Hand, the song which made the Fab Four a success in America. The gala is being performed by Norfolk musicians at the Great Massingham Social Club and broadcast via live streaming.

Writer, musician and blogger Gareth Calway, from Sedgeford, is organising the event.

'A lot of people like the Beatles,' he said. 'There will be a live studio audience as well as the radio listeners.

'There is so much music to get through, the gala is looking more like four hours worth of music. It is very much Beatle mania.'

Folkspot grew out of a folk show broadcast on Sunday nights on the now-defunct community station Wayland Radio by its owner/presenter Jane Knights.

About 40 of the Beatles' 186 songs will feature during the three hour live performance, half of them in a special live broadcast performance of Mr Calway's touring Beatles show.

The rest of the evening features guest musicians performing their favourite Beatles songs.

A list of these and the performers is available on Folkspot's web page . The Beatles gala will be broadcast tomorrow from 7 pm.
