It was an award coveted by the Hugh Grant-voiced Pirate Captain in the 2012 Aardman Animations film - but now it can be claimed in Great Yarmouth.

When the Hippodrome Circus hosts its Easter Pirates Live water extravaganza this April, it will crown its very first Pirate of the Year.

The show, which runs from April 1 until April 23, has been written by comedy duo Jack Jay and Johnny Mac, and will see fierce and ferocious pirates battle to be name Pirate of the Year and take home the treasure.

However audience members will also have the opportunity to get their hands on some booty themselves.

A bountiful treasure chest of prizes will be up for grabs at the show, with the top prize including VIP tickets to the Hippodrome Summer Spectacular and personalised souvenirs.
