A HALESWORTH teenager is hoping to follow in the footsteps of some well-known compatriots by becoming Suffolk's newest young music star.

After reaching the final rounds of the nationwide Live and Unsigned talent search just over a year ago, Freya Roy is now preparing to release her debut EP next month.

The 15-year-old Framlingham College student is the latest in a sparkling list of artists from the area, including former Brandeston Hall and Thomas Mills student Ed Sheeran and Framlingham College alumni Laura Wright and Charlie Simpson.

The Halesworth teenager has already built a reputation for gigging around the county with her atmospheric indie-folk style of music, which will be showcased for all to hear on her debut EP, entitled Wait in the Water, which is due for release in June.

Paul Taylor, headmaster at Framlingham College, said: 'Freya is a very real young talent who has proved herself time and again to be both an original and an exciting performer.

'She works relentlessly at her art, and this has shown through in some live performances of rare quality in one so young.

'All at the college are hugely proud of her.'

Freya's new EP, which was recorded in Diss, will be available from June 30 at an official launch gig in her home town of Halesworth.
