Excitement is building around the county as today marks the two-week countdown to Norfolk Day.
The inaugural event will see communities large and small, businesses, charities and individuals celebrating what makes this county so special.
Nearly 200 events are taking place across the county.
Norfolk Day was the idea the Eastern Daily Press (EDP) and Norwich Evening News and BBC Radio Norfolk.
David Powles, editor of the EDP and Norwich Evening News, said: “I’m thrilled that so many people have got behind the first ever Norfolk Day.
“The large variety of events already organised, from cake sales to world record attempts and sports sessions, shows how passionate people feel about our beautiful county.
“With only two weeks to go the excitement to the big day is increasing and it promises to be a great event which will bring the good people of Norfolk together.”
One of the Norfolk Day ambassadors, chef and Norfolk food hero, Charlie Hodson, said the event was something for Norfolk people to shout about.
He said: “Norfolk Day is a true celebration of what our county is about. It is amazing for Norfolk that people can come together to celebrate the beauty of Norfolk and the people within. Long may it continue.”
The Very Rev Jane Hedges, Dean of Norwich Cathedral, another Norfolk Day ambassador, said: “It’s wonderful that Norfolk Day seems to have captured people’s imagination and that such a large variety of events and activities have been arranged.
“Now that we are just two weeks away from the celebrations hopefully we will see Norfolk Day flags and banners appearing so that everyone is encouraged to join in and perhaps try to discover something new about our beautiful county.”
Chris Sargisson, chief executive of Norfolk Chamber of Commerce as well as Norfolk Day ambassador said: “I believe that every day should be Norfolk Day and we are calling on our local businesses to put themselves centre-stage to showcase some of Norfolk’s finest businesses.”
Norfolk Day is sponsored by Woodforde’s Brewery and Richardson’s Hemsby Beach Holiday Park.
