In the days before records and CDs, let alone iTunes and Spotify, if you wanted to listen to music, then Norwich's parks were often a good port of call.
In days gone by, people used to flock to the likes of Waterloo Park, Eaton Park and Chapelfield Gardens to take in bandstand performances and get their toes tapping to brass bands, jazz and swing.
And the city's bandstands will be swinging again this summer, when Norwich City Council's summer series of free bandstand concerts get under way.
Now in their 17th year, the concerts are organised by local conductor and former British Army musician, Brian Dermott.
The first instalment is at 3pm today, when the Hellesdon and Sprowston Brass will perform at the bandstand in Chapelfield Gardens.
And they will be followed by other groups, performing at parks across the city every Sunday at 3pm for the next three months.
City council leader Alan Waters said: 'The bandstand concerts are a wonderful way of experiencing the talent of local musicians in the tranquil settings of some of our most beautiful parks.'
