Lowestoft Band The Darkness are currently riding on the crest of a wave that has taken them all the way from rehearsing in a pub toilet block to playing renowned gigs around the world.

The four-piece who hail from the Sunrise Coast seem to have captured the imagination of a new generation of rockers and are currently enjoying status as one of the most talked-about bands in Britain.

Last night's performance at the Waterfront in Norwich was the first official gig back home and, judging by the reception the band received, it is easy to see why they attract such a cult following.

The band are being compared to outfits such as AC/DC and Queen.

After hearing lead singer Justin Hawkins' Freddie Mercuryesque falsetto this seems apt.

Even though the lads, who recently supported Def Leppard on tour, are on the brink of global stardom, it is satisfying to know that they have not forgotten their rural roots.

Their lyrics are peppered with references to well-known local landmarks such as the Acle Straight.

Last night's performance attracted a large crowd – proving that Darkness are here and are here to rock your world.
