Worried about how much you'll spend this summer holidays? Don't worry, our readers have some fantastic suggestions for cheap, family-friendly alternatives.

Last week, Andy Parkinson asked in our group, Norfolk Going Out, 'The school summer holidays can be expensive. Where are the best places to visit, and things to do, for free with the kids?'

Luckily, our members were on hand to help out and offered up a range of cheap or free options. Here are just some of them:

• Waterloo Park - or just any park

• Any of our beautiful beaches

• Thetford Forest - you just pay for parking and it's a lovely day out

• The GoGoHare trail around the city is good free fun and gets you out in lovely weather

• Sandringham Woods

• Get some cardboard boxes, draw on them and turn them into aeroplanes and you can go anywhere in the world

• Earsham Wetlands and Flixton Air Museum

• Wells Carnival

• Holt Country Park

• The beach - take a picnic and ball games, have fun

• Review the primary times, the EDP What's On listings, museums, etc.

• Oulton Broad has a lovely park with lots of swings etc. walks along the broad and parkland and a small free museum

• Get the kids to do something for a Blue Peter badge, then you can get into tons of places free - including Africa Alive and Banham Zoo!

• Mud sliding at Blakeney after some crabbing - the messiest fun EVER!

• Knettishall Heath has a natural pool shaped part of the river right where their car park is - not too deep, lots of splashing around

• Cromer beach

• Lots of activities happening in libraries all around Norfolk. It's also free to join the Summer Reading Challenge

• Castle Mall has free kids club every Tuesday in the school holidays and some events on Sundays

• Castle Acre and then play in West Acre Ford (near Swaffham) - all free and beautiful

• Ranworth Broad is lovely - it has a board walk. Lovely birdhide with binoculars at the end of the board walk which is above a small shop

• Baconsthorpe Castle - a ruined moated castle near Holt, great for exploring and a picnic

• Free entry to Strangers' Hall and Museum of Norwich July 24 - August 5

• Great Yarmouth normally has a free firework display every Wednesday during the summer holidays

• Redwings at Caldecott is free - also a children's play area

• Horse sanctuary at Snetterton
