Robert Wright enjoys a perfectly-cast stage version of Mel Brook’s classic film comedy.
The Irving Stage Company’s performance of this colourful and vibrant musical was exceptional. It is full of fun with great choreography and live music. But the most striking feature is the strong and passionate performances from the Company, who are so at ease with the material.
Nic Metcalfe as Max, George Lane as Leo, Jess Hughes as Ulla and Ben Child as Franz were so perfectly cast in their respective roles and their stage chemistry was amazing. There are so many more deserving of mention.
There is so much laughter (and innuendo) here, ranging from the ‘old’ ladies dancing with zimmer frames, to the mocking of Hitler.
A most entertaining evening which is highly recommended.
The show continues to Saturday March 17.
