When John Kearns walks on stage at The Garage sporting a Friar Tuck-style tonsure wig and wacky false teeth, you'd be given for thinking you'd walked into the wrong performance.

But his 70-minute show - Don’t Worry, They’re Here - proves why he’s the only person to have won two prestigious Edinburgh awards.

His shtick is taking on the persona of an exaggerated South London loner, spinning everyday yarns mired in suburbia, all while sporting the aforementioned get-up.

The trick is that it’s hard to tell where Kearns ends and the ‘character’ begins, with the show swinging from absurd vignettes to poignant, real-life observations.

He’s a skilled performer; long pauses give way to bursts of energy, his timing is exceptional and he’s able to improvise and interact with the audience.

At the end you are left in no doubt that he’s a man in control.

The mystery is who the man is.
