The Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds

Archant

Robert Wright enjoys a twist-filled Agatha Christie play at Bury Theatre Royal.

The community theatre company Bury Theatre Workshop took on this twisting and turning Agatha Christie with much enthusiasm. Trying to unravel the clues with such family solidarity was a challenge and it was easy to take the wrong turning.

Amongst the interesting characters was Gayle Wade’s portrayal as the delightful-yet-a-bit-dotty Lady Angkatell. The quite horrible John Cristow was well acted by Rory Griffin so his demise had mixed reactions. Julia Harman was great as the seductive Veronica who seemed a complete contrast from the long-suffering Gerda (Sophie Vinyard).

The minor set changes were done is a most entertaining way with the Butler (Stuart McLellan who always has a great stage presence) and his minion Doris acting them out as housekeeping chores.

This production keeps you wondering almost to the end, but this one had everything falling neatly into place... which pleased Lady Angkatell. The production continues until Saturday June 30.
