There is no business like snow business for Cromer Pier's winter show songstress Lulu Alexandra.

For as well as rehearsing and performing the festive fun on the end of the resort's iconic holiday jetty, she is having to fit in training for her other skill – as a champion ice skater.

Last year, during her debut season in the Christmas Seaside Special, her training suffered a blow – literally –when she was knocked down by a car.

But it did not stop her going on to lift an armful of titles in the new year.

Over the six-week show season, which starts on Saturday, December 1 Lulu will fit in early-morning sessions at the gym to train different sets of muscles to ones she uses in the song and dance routines, as well as choreographing an ice show in Chelmsford on her Mondays off.

'It means getting in the gym at 7am, but I want to retain my British and international artistic and free titles in February and May.

'It does mean I have had to get ahead with my Christmas shopping,' she added.

Lulu is among the 10-strong cast appearing in the show, which unwrapped a flavour of its festive treats at a press launch.

The winter version of the resort's famous and long-running Seaside Special is now in its eighth year.

Di Cooke, who masterminds both shows, said it would include fun for the children such as dancing snowmen, along with a London scene capturing a great Olympic and Jubilee year, along with a Jesus Christ Superstar number, with the cast supplemented by youngsters from Marlene's School of Dance in the town.

It aimed to be 'warm and friendly, with people feeling they know the cast and feeling part of the show'.

They will know the headlining act Olly Day, who is back for the fourth year running, and male singer Eddie Bushell, who is from Cromer and has done four shows as well as mentoring young singers in other years.

Olly, who helps with ideas for the show's sketches, said having a local cast and children was important and helped the welcoming atmosphere.

His sidekick is Jo Little, the 4ft 10in tall Yorkshire 'Queen of Comedy', while the cast is completed by a six-strong group of singer-dancers.

The show, which is doing a children-go-free offer, runs from Saturday, December 1 to Sunday, December 30 with 2pm and 7pm shows almost every day.
