Norwich City's win over Wolves gave Ed Balls Strictly Come Dancing boost
Norwich City chairman Ed Balls has admitted that Norwich City's victory over Wolves at the weekend gave him a boost before his Charleston performance on Strictly Come Dancing.
Appearing on Strictly - It Takes Two with his partner Katya Jones, the former shadow chancellor told host Zoe Ball that when he found out that the Canaries had won, it gave him inspiration for his performance.
He said: “Well she [Yvette Cooper] was sending me messages just 20 minutes before I went on which said oomph, oomph, oomph, go, go ,go, sell, sell sell; you have just got to go for it.
“Because she was worried I was going to be cautious and I was reading these messages and then I found out Norwich had beaten Wolves and I thought wow lets go.”
Ball laughed and added: “If Norwich could do well every week it will spur you on for each dance.”
City’s win, thanks to goals from Cameron Jerome and Robbie Brady, must have given the dancing-duo the lift they needed as they scored 23 points from the judges for their cowboy inspired Charleston routine to The Banjo’s Back In Town and a standing ovation from the studio audience.
On Saturday the pair will be dancing a samba to ‘Cuban Pete’ from The Mask and many Strictly fans are hoping that Balls will be painting his face green and donning the famous yellow suit.
Not only would it be accurate to Jim Carrey’s character in the film but the yellow and green would also be a nod to the Canaries.
Balls said of the dance: “I’m still learning what a samba is, it is not a dance I am that familiar with.”
