Strange Fascination are taking their adaptation of Jules Verne classic novel on a summer open air theatre tour to venues across the region.
Acclaimed Norfolk theatre company Strange Fascination are to untake a summer open air theatre tour with an adaptation of the Jules Verne classic Journey To The Centre Of The Earth.
The tour, which begins at Whitlingham Park in Norwich on June 24 and runs until August 22, takes in more venues across Norfolk and Suffolk than the company's successful run of Alice in Wonderland last summer.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth is described as an exciting children's orientated adventure with puppets, daring escapes, ingenious physical theatre, comedy and audience interaction.
The story deals with fusty Professor Lidenbrook who in order to embark on a great expedition gathers a band of misfits, including hapless assistant Alex who would rather stay at home, the cool and brave Grauben, the mysterious Hans the Icelandic guide and of course, the villain of the piece: Graken, a ruthless mine owner who wants the secrets of at the centre of the earth for himself.
Strange Fascination was formed in 2014. They started in Great Yarmouth performing immersive walk around murder mysteries at Victorian history museum Yesterday's World. They moved onto open air theatre in 2015, with a five actor adaption of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Now run by actor Simon Michael–Morgan and Daisy Plackett, a professional theatre designer, last year saw them tour their adaption of Alice in Wonderland to critical acclaim. They sold out at Holkham Hall and were endorsed by Stephen Fry on Twitter.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth will see Helen Fullerton playing Professor Grace Lidenbrook, Jessamy James as Grauben, Joshua Gould as Captain/Hans, Adam Boyle as Alex, and writer-drector Simon Michael–Morgan will play Dr. Algernon Graken.
Simon Michael–Morgan said: 'We are delighted to be bringing our latest show to so many wonderful venues this summer. It is a rip roaring adventure that will be told through the use of physical theatre and mime, utilising set elements and puppetry to tell the story.
'We can't wait to take you all on our special journey. We encourage the audience to bring picnics to their shows and to dress up accordingly, so as to get into the spirit of the production!'
