Norfolk musician John Galea, 30, performed on the main stage at Norwich's Sundown Festival at the weekend - and has already got his eyes on a spot at Latitude next year.

After being diagnosed with lymph gland cancer at 15, Galea battled through chemotherapy and came out the other side. He has supported bands like Mcfly and Boyzlife, as well as embarking on his own tour, and on Saturday afternoon he represented Norfolk's talent at the latest music event in the festival calendar.

A former pupil of Caister High School, John, who is now based in London, was excited to return home to play at the Norfolk Showground.

'I always love to get the chance to come back. It is the biggest festival in Norfolk, it was amazing,' he said.

'It was surreal. It was a big gig so I felt a bit nervous but it was good. I had my band with me which helped,' he continued.

'Seeing the audience sing back the words to a track of mine called Trendsetter was pretty cool.'

'I am nervous for every performance, but I was especially nervous for this one.'

The three-day festival is in its fifth year and over 40,000 attendees flocked to the Norfolk Showground to see the likes of Craig David, Rag'N'Bone Man, Wiley and You Me At Six.

'They are all incredible artists and musicians' said Galea. 'We were having some food and Wiley just came in to get some and I was like 'Wiley, Wiley!''

Although John says he is more comfortable in the studio because you can 'be more creative and have more time', he also believes performing live is important. 'It's very different and very raw,' he added.

The inspiration Sundown Festival has provided to Mr Galea is clear in his aims for the future.

'It's a goal of mine to play Latitude. It might be happening next year, actually.'
