Nine great places to find comfort food in Norwich

• Milk & Moss Coffee, 12 St Benedicts Street

When it comes to comfort food, cake is always a great choice, and when it comes to cake, Milk & Moss, an independent pop up coffee shop in the city is most definitely the answer. From decadent rainbow layer cakes to delicate fruity choux buns, the coffee shop has the sweet treats you need to get you through the day.

• Motherchip, The Fat Cat Brewery Tap, 98-100 Lawson Road

You can't go wrong with a portion of chips, especially if they're from Motherchip, who are serving up chips with a twist. They've taken the humble piece of potato and made it into a deluxe dish with a range of tasty toppings. Choose from options such as the Pork & Mindy (BBQ pulled pork, Motherchip 'slaw and chipotle mayo), Obi-Juan Kenobi (beef chilli, sour cream and jalapeños) and E.T. Phone Rome (sun dried tomato, basil pesto may and olives).

• Dirty Burger Shack, The Plough, 58 St Benedicts Street

There's nothing quite like a BBQ on a summer's day and that's where The Plough comes in. Their outside BBQ shack is responsible for serving up some of the best looking (and tasting) burgers in the city - dirty burgers. Available on a Friday from 6pm and Saturday from 3pm, you won't want to miss out. Make sure to try their weekend specials, which recently have included creations such as the double beer burger, the Philly cheese steak and the cheesy mushroom melt.

• Pandora's Kitchen, 67 London Street

Hot chocolate season is over but don't despair, when it comes to decadent drinks, Pandora's Kitchen still has you covered. The cafe has created a range of milkshakes for the summer. Try the Cream Tea Shake, made with clotted cream, strawberries and crushed fruit scone, The Bombshell, a white chocolate milkshake with raspberry ripple and chunks of their homemade blondies or The Peanutella WTFlle, a peanut butter and Nutella concoction topped off with a mini waffle.

• The Sir Garnet, 36 Market Place

Cheese toasties are a comfort food staple and at The Sir Garnet, they've taken the humble sandwich and turned it into something a little more special by adding truffle. If you're looking for comfort food with a touch of class, the pub's Market Tapas menu, which also includes meatballs, mac 'n' cheese fritters and chipolatas, is an ideal choice.

• Unthank Arms, 149 Newmarket Street

When you need a hearty dose of comfort, sometimes a Sunday roast can be just what the doctor ordered. Head over to the Unthank Arms on Sundays from midday and choose from Blythburgh shoulder of pork, chicken, Swannington Farm-to-Fork beef and homemade nutroast, all served with vegetables, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.

• Dandy Horse, 27 Magdalen Street

Comfort food and carbs go together like salt and pepper or Sonny and Cher, and one way to get your carb kick is to head to Dandy Horse for one of their bagels. With a wide choice of fillings including bacon, Mexican chilli cheese, peanut butter and smoked salmon, there's something on offer for everyone, and if the bagels aren't enough to keep you going, the cafe's unicorn brownies just might be.

• Olive's Cafe, 40 Elm Hill

If you were going to fill yourself with food, it might as well be with a fry up from Olive's. We're talking the whole enchilada, scrambled eggs, fried bread, bacon, sausages, black pudding and homemade baked beans. Visit on a Saturday and there are even more breakfast and brunch options to be enjoyed, including fluffy American pancakes with bacon or fruit and a hearty drizzling of maple syrup and breakfast burritos.

• Pop up at 79, 79 Unthank Road

You can't beat a pizza and a pint of beer, and you can't beat the price at Pop up at 79 either. Their authentic wood fired pizzas are incredibly popular, as well as their recently introduced 'Morning Glory' a range of Mexican and American style breakfasts.
