It was a case of all aboard for the launch of a new book that aims to inspire Norfolk schoolchildren to discover more about the Broads.
Youngsters from St John's Primary School in Hoveton enjoyed being the first to read the new book - called Britain's Magical Waterland - during a special boat trip from Wroxham by Broads Tours.
Britain's Magical Waterland has been created thanks to a partnership between Broads Tours and Ludham-based Norfolk Wherry Trust, and the fun and interactive book teaches youngsters about the history of the Broads and the wildlife that has made the area its home.
Every primary school in the Broadland area is to be given a free copy of the book which has been partly funded by a grant from the Love the Broads campaign.
The book follows two characters, Bill and Abby, who take children on a journey on the Broads from 2,000 years ago to the present day. Along the way they cover topics ranging from the formation of the Broads from medieval peat diggings and a network of waterways for historic trading wherries to the modern tourist industry, wildlife and conservation.
Broads Tours director Barbara Greasley, who co-wrote the book, said: 'The project was a real team effort and labour of love between Broads Tours and the Norfolk Wherry Trust because we really wanted the next generation of children to appreciate the Broads as much as we do.'
She added: 'In addition to initially issuing books to schools we will give our new book to every student after they have been on a field trip with us so they have lasting memories to bring home and share with their families.'
Briant Smith, Norfolk Wherry Trust vice chairman and co-author of the book, added: 'We wanted to produce something that gave children the opportunity to really interact with the book.'
Some of the book's first young readers certainly seemed enthralled by what Bill and Abby were teaching them during Friday's boat trip to launch the publication.
Anya, nine, said: 'Instead of just looking at the beautiful environment you have a little book to spot things and that makes it even better.'
Her classmates Everlyn and Chloe, also nine, agreed. Chloe added: 'The Broads are really wonderful and peaceful and the book makes it even more fun.'
