One of today's leading cellists, Polish-born Marcin Zdunik, will be artist-in-residence at next month's King's Lynn Festival.

He will play in four concerts including the final night with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Festival artistic director Ambrose Miller said Marcin was one of the finest cellists of his generation – and his involvement at this year's Lynn Festival fitted the event's Eastern Europe theme.

Marcin, who was artist-in-residence with Warsaw Philharmonic last year, will first appear at St Nicholas' Chapel on Saturday, July 21, when he will demonstrate his technical mastery playing two Bach suites for cello.

On Monday, July 23, he will launch the popular series of morning coffee concerts at Lynn Town Hall when he will join the Aurea Quartet for a performance of what is considered Schubert's finest chamber work – his Quintet in C.

On Thursday, July 26, Marcin will return to the Town Hall to join Jams Coleman on the piano, to present the fourth coffee concert including works by Brahms, Debussy and Chopin.

There will be a chance to meet Marcin when he appears in a more relaxed setting at an event entitled The Cello Up Close.

He will discuss the cello and his career with Ambrose Miller – and, no doubt, play some music too.

This event, which will fascinate anyone with an interest in the cello will be at 3pm on Friday, July 27, in the Shakespeare Barn in the St George's Guildhall complex.

In the final concert with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Marcin will be the soloist in Tchaikovsky's Variations on rococo theme before Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony brings the 68th festival to an end.

Marcin won the 'new talent' title at the International Forum of Young Performers in 2008.

He has also performed in the Carnegie Hal in New York, the BBC Proms and at prestigious halls and festivals around the world.

King's Lynn Festival, which includes 36 events, is being staged on July 15-28. Call the box office at Lynn Corn Exchange on 01553 764864 or visit www.kingslynnfestival.org.uk.
