Frankly, if you don't leave the theatre with a spring in your step you must have a heart of stone - this is one Elle of a musical!

A pitch-perfect cast is led by Lucie Jones (an X Factor finalist and the UK's entry for Eurovision last year) as Elle Woods, a sorority sister who becomes an unconventional law student at Harvard.

Legally Blonde started out, of course, as a film starring Reese Witherspoon and has since been re-imagined as a musical, taking audiences by storm with its perfect blend of romance, comedy, poignancy - and the key message about being true to yourself.

Former EastEnder Rita 'Roxy' Simons plays Paulette, with a fabulous characterisation, nabbing some great laughs along with delivery man Kyle. I've heard both Lucie and Rita sing on telly but it's a joy to hear their awesome voices live, and both play the funny and serious sides to their characters to the max.

Bill Ward (Emmerdale and Coronation Street) plays the baddie Professor Callahan with gusto and David Barrett has a great voice as Elle's kind-hearted legal colleague Emmett.

The show is nicely paced, moving swiftly from one set-piece to the next, with pieces of scenery and props gliding in for minimum disruption to the narrative.

Pink-clad Lucie might have the X Factor but the aaah factor definitely goes to local bulldog Winston who won the role of Rufus after an audition. Owned by James Madden and Rhonda Dunthorne from Hainford, he stole the show in his scenes and got a massive cheer when he came on for his curtain call with Simons. Elle's dog Bruiser, the Chihuahua, is played by a canine actor who tours with the show.

There's a host of catchy songs, comic moments and slick choreography particularly on the complex skipping song – they weren't even out of breath at the end.

The cast's enthusiasm was totally infectious – they genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves and they made sure we did too.

The production is on until Saturday, don't miss this joyful treat.
