Behold, the witching hour is almost upon us and there is plenty of terrifying adventure to scare you out of your wits across South Norfolk this Halloween. Here are some of the fun-packed highlights to send shivers down your spine…
- Kids Halloween Party
The Waterfront Inn, Mere Street, Diss, October 24, 2pm-5pm
Take your little witches and wizards or ghosts and pumpkins to this children's Halloween party that promises games, fun and lots of sweets. Entry is free.
- Harry Potter Book Night
Diss Publishing Bookshop, Mere Street, Diss, October 24, 6pm-8pm
Pre-Halloween evening celebrating everyone's favourite wizarding book series, 20 years since the first release of The Prisoner of Azkaban. Spark your creativity and Harry Potter expertise at the quiz night, creative activities and a fancy dress competition. Prizes will be given and drinks and nibbles available. Tickets £4 per child in advance only.
- Spooky Zoo
Banham Zoo, until October 27
Half-term Halloween at Banham and there is something spoo-ooky going on. There will be spine-tingling stories as well as frightful face painting. You can even try your hand at carving pumpkins and lots of additional Halloween-themed crafts for all to enjoy.
- Halloween Pumpkin Picking & Carving
Goodies Food Hall, French's Farm, Wood Lane, Pulham, until October 27, 9am-4pm (last admission 3pm)
You're in for a frightfully good time at Goodies Food Hall this half-term and after picking your pumpkin from the spooky wood you can carry it in their wheelbarrows to the carving station. They will also be running storytelling, games, a Halloween trail and Crazy Faces Face Painting will also be there so make sure to come in your best costume (not available Oct 25). Pumpkin and activities £6.50, face painting additional charge.
- Pumpkin Carving
Cherry Lane Garden Centre, Pulham Market, October 25/28, 10am-11am
Fangtastic pumpkin carving event offering the chance to create some spooky designs whilst enjoying a creepy cookie and witches brew! Arrive in your most frightful fancy dress and take part in a devilishly cool zombie dance off! With prizes to be won. Tickets £5.99 per child with accompanying adults free.
- Children's Halloween Fun Day
Peter Beales Roses, London Road, Attleborough, October 25, 10am-3pm
Halloween themed crafts, games and our spooky story telling trail through the gardens. Plus take part in the fun pumpkin trail and get creative with pumpkin carving workshops, spook-tacular face painting, meet creepy crawlies. Go in fancy dress, best costume wins a prize. Free entry but small charge for face-painting and pumpkin carving.
- Spooky Halloween Evenings
Bressingham Steam Museum, October 25-26, from 5.30pm
A spooky time to be had this Halloween at Bressingham. The Fen Railway train will be running from 6pm through the edge of the haunted woods, hoping it doesn't need to stop at the old abandoned crossing or the wilderness swamp. Ride one of the Galloper ghosts of years gone by. First train ride when it gets dark. Ghost train runs on demand; last rides between 8pm-8.30pm. Advance tickets £8.50, £7 for children.
- Fright Night Halloween Party
Fighting Cocks Inn, Winfarthing, October 26, 5.30pm-11pm
Just crowned South Norfolk's most family friendly pub, the Fighting Cocks will have lots of spooky Halloween fun including children's entertainment and carved pumpkin competition. There is a fancy dress competition, for children and adults. Burgers and hotdogs and an evening party too. Tickets £2 per child, under-3s free.
- Halloween Fayre
Market Place, Harleston, October 27, 3pm-6pm
The Market is the place to be for spooktacular Halloween treats and fun. There will be a pumpkin trail and spooky games, plus entertainment. Craft stalls and street food. And make the effort to dress up in your scary best for the fancy dress competition.
- Halloween Trail & Kids Activities
The Pennoyer Centre, Pulham St Mary, October 31, 4.30pm-6.30pm
Fun event for all the family to celebrate Halloween with a safe 'trick or treating' trail around the village - pick up your map from the centre, plus loads of creepy crafts, apple bobbing, gruesome fingers, hot dogs and other revolting treats and fancy dress competition.
- Halloween Treats
St Remigius Church, Roydon, October 31, 5pm-6.30pm
Special All Hallows Eve fun in Roydon church car park with sweets and treats for both children and adults.
- Spookys & Sparks Fireworks
Mayfields Care Home, Swan Lane, Long Stratton, October 31, 5pm-7.30pm
The much anticipated return of a Spooky Firework Spectacular, raising funds for residents of Mayfields Care Home.
- Halloween Fancy Dress Fright Night
The Railway Tavern, Mellis, October 31, 9pm-11.45pm
Night of spooky songs and scary movie clips. The pub will be spookily decorated and candlelit only! There will be a few surprises thrown in too, just to keep you on your toes! A free drink for everyone in fancy dress.
- Day of the Dead
The Oaksmere, Brome, November 2, 4pm-7pm
Post Halloween but lots of similar fun. The kids' disco event as it begins to get dark features a pumpkin candle parade, fancy dress, a play, fire performers, spooky smoke machines, carved pumpkin awards, UV face painting, apple bobbing and more. Adults £10, children £5, under-5s free, family tickets £25. There is also an evening event with live music from Headspace, Soul Riot and DJ Dr Shaky.
