Gesture of goodwill offered to theatre-goers who missed performances due to the bad weather

Theatre-goers who missed performances of Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella at Norwich Theatre Royal due to the extreme bad weather are to be reimbursed with part of the value of their tickets.
It was a case of the show must go at the city venue last week as all performances of the dance production went ahead as planned despite the heavy snow and 4,500 people enjoyed watching the production.
However, in recognition that the weather made it impossible for some people to see the show, the theatre is offering a gesture of goodwill and crediting the accounts of those theatre-goers with 20pc of the cost their tickets - the equivalent of the theatre’s share of the ticket sales.
“I would firstly like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during the week we hosted Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella,” said Norwich Theatre Royal chief executive Stephen Crocker.
“Our terms and conditions of purchase do state that, except in the case of a show being cancelled, no refund or part-refund is available after a ticket is purchased. As the whole New Adventures company was in Norwich and able to perform, no shows were cancelled.
“However, as a one-off gesture of goodwill, we will credit the accounts of those customers who were not able to attend, due to the exceptionally bad weather conditions, with 20pc of the amount they paid for their tickets which is equivalent to the income Theatre Royal would have received from those tickets.”
He explained further: “Like all other presenting theatres, we do not retain 100pc of the ticket price of any of the shows we present. Our share of ticket sales for Cinderella was 20pc, with the other 80pc covering the cost of bringing New Adventures’ world-class 50-strong company of dancers, technical crew and support staff to Norwich.”
Mr Crocker also praised New Adventures for going “above and beyond in their efforts to make sure they provided the more than 4,500 people who were able to attend the production with a fantastic performance.”
The theatre has a record of all ticketholders who could not attend last week’s performances and will be contacting everybody in due course with details how much will be credited to their theatre accounts. These credits will be valid for 36 months.
