The Bury St Edmunds Festival finale saw a crowd-pleasing set from hitmakers UB40, says Robert Wright.
The final session of this year's Bury Festival was the British reggae combo UB40 fronted by Duncan Campbell. It was performed in the what is usually a very peaceful Nowton Park, but all that changed when this long-established group hit the stage. It was an exciting show with a mix of new and old songs which the crowd enthusiastically lapped up.
There were solo vocal pieces from individual members of the band who would normally have played instruments, which just shows the in-depth talent of this group.
Of course there were many favourites, including Red Red Wine, one of their most iconic tunes released in 1983, but first written and performed by Neil Diamond in 1967.
Finishing the gig in true romantic style with their own hit version of (I Can't Help) Falling in Love with You, this was a wonderful evening's entertainment.
