JON WELCH

Unthank Arms, Norwich

Since it started, nearly five years ago, the Red Card Comedy Club has firmly established Norwich on the comedy map, bringing some of the best stand-ups on the circuit to the city.

Comedy City takes the concept to a new environment - a large marquee in the beer garden of the Unthank Arms pub.

John Mann, a laid-back Essex geezer, opened the show introducing former London's Burning actor and Southend United goalkeeper Terry Alderton.

He's one of the top names on the circuit and showed why, with a masterclass in raucous physical comedy that had the crowd eating out of his hand.

He's a master of the stage who doesn't really do gags, specialising instead in remarkable impressions, funny faces and daft noises.

His set included affectionate skits of film stars Robert de Niro and Morgan Freeman.

The Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue are a true one-off act, a pair of bizarrely dressed individuals who had the crowd in hysterics with their hilariously literal interpretations of dozens of songs from the last 45 years of pop music.
