Cromer Carnival continued to enjoy one of its hottest weeks yet as temperatures once again topped 21 degrees on day three of the festivities.

The heat made for difficult conditions at a butchery demonstration at the show's new game and country fair.

However, organisers have hailed the event such a success they are already planning to make it bigger and better next year.

Other attractions on the carnival field, which is normally empty on a Monday, included cookery and sheep shearing demonstrations, horses, dogs and scarecrow competitions,

Carnival volunteer Digby Eddison said: 'I don't see how it can't be repeated and bettered next year. Monday was normally a blank day and this has provided extra entertainment where there would have been nothing.

'It was the first time we've done a game and country fair at the Cromer Carnival, so we were a little bit apprehensive about how it would go and how many people would turn up, but it has been successful. For the first year there has been plenty of people interested.

'We've had a cookery demonstration and Icarus Hines demonstrating the butchery which has posed a few questions about doing it out in the open air with the heat – it has been a very hot day today and butchery probably doesn't work very well outdoors, so we will probably rethink that for next year.'

Elsewhere, on the pier forecourt, the Cliftonville Hotel and Cromer Pier were at the double in the traditional waiters and waitresses competition.

Oscar Henley Adams and Katheryn Edwards, both from the Cliftonville Hotel, were named Best Dressed Waiter and Waitress, in their respective competitions, while Jordan McElwee and Parish Hay, both from Cromer Pier, won the Waiter and Waitresses race, respectively.

Organiser Julie Brooks said: 'It has been going for years but this year the weather has really made it. We were toying with taking it somewhere else last year (because of the weather) but this year we haven't had to.'

The festivities continue until Friday.
