Youngsters growing up in a seaside town during the First World War find themselves with a battle of their own in an exciting musical heading to Sheringham Little Theatre.
The Battle of Boat looks at how a group of teenagers' desire to join a friend who is fighting in France sees them try recruitment, an airship and a home-made boat, amid opposition from a suspicious rival gang.
Performed by a cast of Little Theatre youth musical group members aged between eight and 16, the production features a playful but powerful script and a movie-style musical score.
Director Adrian Connell, who founded Norfolk Youth Musical Theatre in 1995, said the Battle of the Boat was his all-time favourite production of the 100 he has led in a career stretching back to 1968.
He has staged the show in Norwich and Edinburgh and is proud to be reprising it in his home town of Sheringham.
'When I auditioned this latest show in north Norfolk the cast were so young, but they have done brilliantly learning the complex score,' he said.
'They should be immensely proud of this work and we hope the audiences enjoy watching the performance as much as we have enjoyed creating it.'
The musical, which is being staged as part of the venue's World War One centenary programme, was devised by composer Ethan Lewis Maltby, who wrote the FA Cup walk-on anthem, and lyricist Jenna Donnelly, who has worked with pop stars Alesha Dixon and Atomic Kitten, and on the The Voice TV show.
Sheringham Little Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: 'We never cease to be amazed by the talent that emerges from our young actors and singers; whatever challenge we throw down they rise to it.'
The Battle of the Boat runs at Sheringham Little Theatre from September 20-22 nightly at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday. Tickets are available from the box office, phone 01263 822347 or from www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com
